High School Team of the Week

The Jasper Jazz is a 10^th grade drill team at Jasper High School located in Plano, TX. The 2008-2009 team is composed of 52 dancers and 5 managers. The Jazz are under the direction of director Jen Gray Morrow and assistant director Kathy Conklin.

The Jazz perform at many events including all home football games, pep rallies, some basketball games, the Plano Christmas parade as well as putting on their annual spring show which is the highlight of their year. They begin working on their spring show in November and always produce an outstanding product in the end.

This team strives to work hard, is constantly motivating each other, and is known to have a good reputation in and out of school. These young ladies are exceptional in that they are mature, responsible, dedicated AND talented.

Something else that the Jazz strive to do is give back to their community. Whether it’s volunteering their time at a homeless shelter or donating food/needed items to those groups/individuals who truly need it…the Jazz are always willing to give their time to others.

Not only do the Jazz carry out traditional elements in drill team such as acting like young ladies, using their manners, being on time, always being prepared, etc…but the Jasper Jazz are known to have a unique quality about them. Mrs. Morrow likes to bring individuality to her program and let her dancers explore with the many possibilities in the world of dance. Her traditional methods of drill team collide with the discipline of dance and as a result, a unique team is formed.

Being a Jasper Jazz is a one year occurrence as Plano has 9^th & 10^th grades together, then 11^th & 12^th grade senior highs together. So even though Mrs. Morrow gets her team for only one year and then has to say goodbye to each one of them as they part their ways to the senior high, she can only hope that their experience as a Jasper Jazz lives with them forever.
